chapter 6

"Oh my God! You look so pretty!"

              "Y, yes. I can't wait until I get married."

"Thanks guys, I hope one of you two catch the bouquet," giggled a girl wearing a puffy white dress and with white flowers in her pink hair. She looked as though she was taken out of a painting, the ideal bride. Ino and Hinata were standing by her, also all dressed up, they were the maids of honor.

"Sakura," Ino said, suddenly looking serious. "Your sure this is what you want to do right?"

"Ino chan!" Hinata said a little louder than she usually said things. "What are you saying right before the wedding?"

"Oh, you know, just making sure Sakura wouldn't regret anything for the rest of her life. Well, I guess she won't then, that's good." Ino picked up her hand bag and headed for the door. "We'll be waiting for the ceremony then. Ta taa!"

The door slammed behind the two, and Sakura was left alone in the preparation room. She turned her head to see herself in the mirror. A bride out of a storybook, she had to admit, but this wasn't the way she dreamed her wedding to be as a child. She wanted to wear a white kimono, not a big piece of lace. But here she was, standing in a puffy white wedding dress because Asahi's parents insisted that she would be much more beautiful.

She had ignored Sasuke's letter. She had a tiny urge to go and forget about the wedding all together, but then what? Sasuke would always be gone on missions and she'd be alone. No, this was the right thing.

             KNOCK KNOCK "Come in."

"He he he, hey Sakura chan!"

"Naruto!" Sakura exclaimed, surprised to see him in a suit. "Aren't you supposed to be training for the Jounin exams?"

"Yeah, but let's just say this is my last break," He sniggered with his eyes thin as usual like a fox. His hair was spiky, even on a day like this, as anyone could guess. "Sakura chan," said Naruto sitting himself down on a chair without even asking for permission. "Are you sure this is what you want to do?"

"What is it with you people!" Sakura cried, frustrated. "This is my own decision, I'll marry Asahi san and be happy. Asahi san is a positive person, I'm a lot happier around a person like him than. . ."

"That's strange, you seemed happiest around Sasuke," Naruto muttered.

             "What?"

"Well, you know, it's sort of like your trying to cover up something when your around Asahi, no offense but," Naruto casually said. Sakura stared at a spot on the floor.

"Well that's no different from Sasuke kun," Sakura exclaimed. "And not only that, I know that Asahi san will never hurt me like Sasuke kun did 5 years ago."

Naruto narrowed his eyes, "Sakura chan, you still don't get it?"

             "Get what?"

"He didn't contact you because he didn't want to worry you. What would you have done if you found out what he was doing while he was away? You would have been stressed out about it for days."

"Yes, but I thought he was dead! He wasn't there for 5 whole years. Do you call that not trying to worry you? He wasn't there for me. . . but Asahi san was."

"Oh my God, you call that Asahi dude there for you? Sasuke was gone that whole time for you!"

             "What?"

"He still seemed to have some sort of grudge when he couldn't save you a while ago, and he made some sort of promise. . . So he decided he should leave the village until he thought he was strong enough to protect you."

"Protect me? I never said I needed any protecting."

"Well tell that to him! He was saying something about not being able to prevent some sort of crap happening during the mission, and now he's convinced that 'He can't live for you' or something."

              "!!"

"If you don't stop him you'll never see him again. He was saying he wanted to vanish from your life."

". . .This is all my fault." She said, remembering the rainy night five years ago.

Before Naruto could say anything Sakura dashed out of the room. "Should I tell them the wedding's off?" She heard Naruto scream. "You do that!" Sakura screamed back. She ran through the wedding hall, ignoring everyone who tried to stop her, her wedding dress flying in the wind behind. She looked at the clock, "1:55."

"I've got to make it!" she thought.

             *            *           *

It was 2 pm. Sasuke stood in front of the Konoha Gate once again. He remembered staring up at the gate when he had left the village when he was fifteen. His thoughts then were that he would come back when he believed he was fit enough to be called a true "Shinobi." This time he was never going to come back.

He wondered how he would continue the Uchiha clan. He knew it was impossible to fall in love with anyone more than Sakura, although it wouldn't be difficult for him to get girls.
His watch rang. It was 2:01. He turned around, he'd said 2 exactly, therefore he must make an immediate getaway. That wouldn't be hard seeing that his speed was probably in the top 10 of all Jounins in the world. He turned around to go.

"Fair well Konoha," he heard himself say. That was when from behind him.

             "SASUKE KUN!"

He turned around to se a white puff running towards him. "Sakura?"

Sakura ran up to him, still in her wedding dress that had dirt on the hem. "Sasuke kun, I'm glad I made it," she chuckled, wiping the sweat off her brow. Then she panted as she said, "Sasuke kun, don't go! Naruto told me why you're doing all this. Why didn't you tell me?"

"So you heard. . . Well it's kind of hard to tell the person you're doing stupid things for the truth isn't it?" he said, going a little red.

             "Sasuke kun, don't go."

Sasuke looked downward as he said, "I'm sorry Sakura, but I. . ."

Sakura slapped him, just like she did 5 years ago. "Don't be stupid. Sure we promised that we'd live for each other, but that doesn't mean we'd betray the other to protect them. I meant we'd always be there for each other, and help each other." She noticed she was crying once again. She'd cried so many times the past few weeks, and she hated herself for having all this driving her mad.

"But Sakura, there were so many times that I couldn't do anything for you."

"So? There are probably more times that I can't help you, but that's just when we have to help each other out. Sasuke kun. . . I still love you."

His eyes widened at these words. She continued, "I don't care if you believe you aren't fit to be with me. I think I would still love you if you were the weakest ninja on earth. I'll probably always love you , whatever happens to you," Sakura burst into tears now. She tried to wipe her eyes and stop, but the tears wouldn't seize. She thought that she must have looked so pathetic to him.

"Sakura," Sasuke whispered. He reached out and pulled her into his arms. She put her arms around his neck and continued crying on his shoulder.

"You really don't mind? Even if I'm the weakest ninja on earth, you still wouldn't mind?"

             "Of course I won't."

"Sakura, you are the most important person to me in the world, and that will never change. I love you."

The two of them promised to be together for the rest of their lives. They probably still don't know that a few months from now they would get married, and two years later they would have a son and a daughter. They probably don't know that Naruto would be orientated as the next Hokage only ten years from now, and that Sakura would be promoted to a Jounin the same year. They probably didn't know they would spend the rest of their lives together, and that Sasuke would finally find a place where he belonged. Right now they were stuck in the present. Passer-bys stopped and stared at the Jounin hugging the pink haired girl in a wedding dress. They were the center of attention, but it didn't matter to them.

             They were together again.
