SMILE by Naomi
"Hnn..." Sakura said, sitting on the bench. It was hot out, and she wanted it more than
anything to rain. Well, except for Sasuke that is...
But today just had to be training, and Kakashi was late-
as usual. Now team seven stood on the bridge, waiting for him. Why wouldn't he hurry up?!
"It's sooo hot out." Naruto said, sitting under a tree. Even his energy had come down suddenly since the heat.
"..." Sasuke stood silently, leaning against the bridge. As usual, he gave no comment.
3 hours later:
The
sun was scorching, and Sakura thought she'd gotten a tan by the time Kakashi showed up.
"Hi guys," he said, "Sorry I took so long, but several old ladies needed help with their groceries.."
"More like several young women who invited you for tea, right?" Naruto said.
"I
uh.." Kakashi stammered, blushing. "Um...anyways, let's start, shall we?"
"Pervert!"
Sakura and Naruto screamed.
"Now now, don't say that.." Kakashi said.
'I can tell this
is going to be a long day...' he thought.
The say proceeded by doing the usual helping out around the village,
and a little bit of training. When they sat down for a break, all but Kakashi were tired.
Sakura poured
water on herself from a bottle, not bothering to drink much.
Just then, a messenger came to the group.
"I need to speak to Haruno Sakura, please." The messenger said, and pulled Sakura aside.
"I'm sorry to say,
miss Haruno, but we have just been informed of your grandparents' deaths. They were assassinated." He said.
Sakura's
happy face melted quickly, and her eyes swelled with tears that streamed down her face. She turned on heel, and
ran as fast as she could into the forest where nobody could find her.
The messenger returned to the group.
"Sakura
may be pardoned for the day." He said, and left.
"Nani?" Naruto asked, but the messenger was
gone. "Why would Sakura-chan be pardoned?"
"I don't know." Kakashi said, frowning.
Sasuke,
however, saw her running into the forest, and he followed her quickly.
"Sasuke?
Sasuke! Where are you going?" Kakashi called after him. But it was too late, Sasuke had disappeared into the forest.
The
coulds that had been white now donned greys and blacks, predicting a rainfall. Which matched Sakura's mood perfectly,
of course.
She was crying hard, and didn't care for much around her when she found a clearing, and sat
down on a large rock. Life was so unfair. You live, you die. It was simple, but why were her grandparents
assassinated? They hadn't done anything!
She continued crying, and didn't stop, not even when the rain started
to pour. This morning she’d only wanted it to rain, but now…now all she could think about
was her grandparents. Sakura looked up, not caring for the rain that soaked her. The clouds were grey and rain
poured. Life… life was so unfair! And so she screamed. Not a scream for help, but she screamed purely for
the hardships of life, a sad scream of desperation. At last she stopped, but remained looking up and standing.
He
knew the scream, although it wasn’t the one he was used to. Sasuke heard Sakura’s scream, and he felt…pity?
Could Uchiha Sasuke possibly feel pity for another person? “Sakura!” He called out again and again,
and at last heard the soft weeping of her. “Sakura!” Sasuke said, reaching her.
“Go away!”
She said, still sobbing.
“Sakura are you…alright?” He asked her.
“No, now go away!”
As much as she wanted Sasuke to stay, Sakura also wanted him to go, her private time in life was important.
“Sakura
I-” Sasuke said, but the words stopped in his throat, so instead her walked over to her, and made her face
him.
She looked so delicate beside him, considering he was taller than her. Sasuke folded his arms around her, and
realized he felt pity. Which was quite a shock for one of the Uchiha clan members, Sasuke barely felt
any emotion for anyone but himself. “Sakura, you’re supposed to be a happy person. I’m….
I’m…” He fumbled on the word, “I’m sorry. But smile, just once right now. Please?
Please smile for me, Sakura.” Sasuke said, almost begging her. Sakura looked up at him, face stained with
tears as she smiled and said, “Alright.”
Smile once more, it means a thousand words to me.
